What is 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a challenge in the form of a library program that encourages families to read at least 1,000 books with their young children before they enter Kindergarten. Reading this many books helps prepare young minds for Kindergarten because they are able to develop their vocabulary and language skills.
The average picture book only takes five minutes to read. Three books every day for 15 minutes over the course of one year is equal to 1,095 books. |
